Singaporeans and their ignorance

Hi. Today I'll be ranting on Singaporeans who are extremely dumb. Too many times have you heard people say something extremely stupid. What? You ask. Here's an example:

A family goes to the zoo during the weekend. Everything goes well until they go to the tiger enclosure.

Boy: Wah! The tiger is so big! And it's teeth are very sharp! (nothing wrong here. it's just an observation)

Parents: Don't go too near. Or you'll be eaten up! The tiger is very fierce,you know!

(Boy vows to protect parents from tigers by killing them. Parents pat boy's head)

WTH. First of all,tigers will not attack anyone for no reason unless it's crazy,sick or injured. Or if it sees you as a threat. Tigers in the ZOO are kept a distance away from the visitors,for goodness sake. And this condoning of killing animals to protect yourself is quite disturbing. No wonder tigers are an endangered species.

Tell me,does this look fierce to you?

Free Speech

Hi guys. By now you would have heard about the news about a guy who got sued by the government for "defaming" them. Mr Gopalan Nair was fined $5000 for defaming Mr *** and other people in the government. This is the link to his blog: http://singaporedissident.blogspot.com/
But what exactly is defamation? According to the dictionary I have it means the act of writing or saying something that makes people have an unfairly bad opinion of someone. I have read Mr Nair's blog and this is (quoting from Wee "get out of my elite uncaring face as I'm an MP's daughter" Shu Min) the brutal truth: IT IS NOT DEFAMING.

Does Mr Nair make up fake events or incidents to put the government in a bad light? No.

Does he spout vulgarities like no one's business and insult the government? No.

All he does is state the facts and give his own opinions on the incident in question. If this is defaming,then I can conclude that Singapore DOES NOT allow free speech. Sure,you are allowed to talk about politics at the Speakers Corner,but you need a permit. You can swear and insult the PAP in the nearby kopitiam,but you can't stage a protest which only involves waving signs around. No violence,no insults.

Free speech in Singapore? I doubt it.

196 North Vista Sec students suspended for breaking school rules: STOMPer

196 students were suspended on Tuesday (Mar 18), according to STOMPer Alvin. He said that the students - all from the lower secondary classes - were suspended based on what he calls "minor reasons".

"The school has started a 'massive suspending scheme'. They suspend students based on the most minor reasons such as having unkempt hair, short skirt, tabloid pants, untidy attire," he said.

“That makes the school left with 10 students on average per class.”

According to Mr Yong KS, Vice President of North Vista Secondary, "53 students are in the process of rectifying their hair or uniform problems."

Continuing in an email reply, he said:"We instill high expectations of students' attire and general appearance. We have clear standards of expected hairstyle and attire which are reflected in the students’ handbook. There is a consistent process of monitoring and managing students who do not comply with the standards.

"Character development is an important component in our students’ education at North Vista Secondary School. Our school endeavors to nurture Vistarians who are disciplined and manifest the virtues of care and respect.

"Students who are found not meeting our hairstyle requirements are sent to arranged barbers to have their hair cut. For students who have modified uniforms, they are expected to rectify the problems or buy a new set of uniforms in the school bookshop.

"Parents are kept informed through the phone call when their child leaves the school for the haircut.

"We are confident that parents and Vistarians will jealously guard their school rules and regulations. All these are done to develop our Vistarins to be fine ladies and true gentlemen."

North Vista Secondary School, located in Sengkang, "was a popular choice among heartlanders", according to STOMPer Alvin.“Does this suspension really help the students? Or do they do this only to cut down operating costs? Parents of the suspended students are very unhappy and have no channels to voice out their concerns," he added.

WOW. 196 students suspended in one go. Someone give the school management staff a medal. And it wasn't because they were caught doing something that would shame the school greatly such as stealing or gambling or even taking drugs. They were suspended because their attire was untidy. Tell me,how petty can you guys get? they aren't dressed properly,so what? This dosen't call for suspension. The worst punishment in my opinion is to simply call their parents and scold them. Compare that to suspension. Anyway,your plan sucks. If u suspend them,what do you think they're going to do? I can tell you that they sure won't be at home going,"I deserved it. I should wear my uniform properly and neatly."

Think abt your decision. It will really affect the school's reputation.

An "embarrasing" moment

Damn it. Today many of my classmates and I were made to stand up. Why? Because that day was "MT silent reading time" and we did not bring our MT books. We had brought our Maths Wkbks instead as there was a Maths test after flag raising. The teacher who called us to stand even said that we should be ashamed and that we as VS students should be even more so.

First of all,there is nothing to be ashamed of if u have forgotten to bring something OR have a valid reason. Like the Maths test. Why else would we be bringing our Maths Workbooks to the hall to read? Do u really think that we are so free so as to just read anything we have?

Secondly,why do you have to order us to stand up for all to see? Are we criminals? Have we commited a grave offence? Why the need for this sort of public shaming? It's useless I tell u. Before long,that same person will most probably repeat what he did wrong. Translation: YOUR PLAN BACKFIRED. Clear?

We were supposed to feel embarrased. Me,definitely not.

If there is a Maths test and it falls on a Thursday,I'm going to bring a chinese book PLUS my maths notes.

Sigh...

My parents scolded me again. I really have no idea why they like to scold,criticize and put me down so often. Sure,there are some times where I have done something wrong and I admit to my mistakes and take the scolding,but there are also other times where they can flare up just because I they accused me of doing something that I did not. Whenever I try to talk to them,I am often shouted at and shooed away. "Don't tell us what to do" they say.

Maybe I am already used to it,but nowadays whenever I am being "disciplined" I just shut up and listen. Talking or negotiation is futile. I am like a robot in their eyes. Everything I do must be to their standards. I think it's better to be a robot. At least you don't feel any pain.

Just a few minutes ago my parents said that I was spoilt. Well they did not say that but what they said showed. "Do you know how much money we spend? Everyday can take taxi to school and back" HELLO?! Did I even say I WANTED to take taxi? I said my collarbone was OK and that I could take the bus. Why do you blame me???

I know that my parents love and care for me alot. If my parents happen to read this,I want to tell you that I know your intentions and I thank you for it.

Terrorist on the loose

I'm sure you guys have heard the news that a terrorists escaped and is now somewhere out in Singapore. This is a serious matter. We are all living in danger now. The guy can just walk into a shopping mall or important building and just blow the whole damn place up,which will result in many deaths.

Honestly,I have no freaking idea how the hell the police could let that guy escape. I mean,he's a TERRORIST for goodness sake. Couldn't they be more vigilant because of this one important fact? Apparently not. Here is what I think happened:


T: I need to go to the toilet.
G: What? No!
T: Please,just for awhile.
G: Ok.
(Terrorist escapes)
T: Ha! Sucker!
G: Hey,are you done yet?
(No answer)
G calls for backup.
Police crash door down.
G: OMG!!! He's escaped!
Backup: The guy must be some magician or something. How the hell could he have escaped?

Need I say more?

ITE bias and total crap

Crap.

Can you actually believe what the principal said? How can she tell students to go to ITE just because she wants 100% passes in the school? So what if her school does not get 100% passes? Will the school be demolished? Will she be killed by upset parents? OF COURSE NOT!!! This is just plain stupid. The principal is demoralising the students by saying such things. Anyway,what in the bloody world is wrong with ITE? The people studying there should not be discriminated just because they got bad marks. Contrary to what the education system teaches us,results are not everything. In fact,some students from ITE can even outshine JC students! But does anyone care? NO. What makes this incident even more disturbing is that the Minister of State for Education actually supported the principal's act.(OMG!!!)



Past data shows that 40 per cent of students will not do well enough to qualify for polytechnic, and students need to know this from the start, he said. So? Why not try to be one of the 60% who can qualify? Even if you go to ITE after that,at least you can admit that you tried and you did not listen to what stupid people said. Besides,ITE is not the end.

I hope that no one would listen to such rubbish,even if it's spoken by a principal.

The world of feminism

These days,I wonder what has happened to the world. News of global warming,terrorism and natural disasters plague the news every single day. However,what is most disturbing is that the world is becoming a feminist place.

This is NOT the OK form of feminism which demands that females should have the same rights as males. I am PERFECTLY OK with that. In fact,I support it. However,the form of feminism I am talking about is twisted. In fact,there are many examples of this in life. For example,the law will sentence a man to HANGING if he throws his baby off a building. But a woman who does the exact same thing will only be sentenced to life imprisonment. Now,I would like to ask you: Is this fair? Of course it's not!!! If you get hanged,that is the end of your life. THE END. If you get sentenced to life in prison instead,you may have your sentence deducted by a few years for good behaviour. Although it is rare,it's still an opportunity to get out of jail.

I experienced this sort of extreme feminism yesterday during my primary school days. There was one incident where the relief teacher for our class during PE made the boys run 4 laps but the girls only needed to run 2. The reason:The boys needed a longer time to settle down.

After running 4 laps around the school field,the teacher then told both genders to choose 2 representatives for a race. All of us (the boys) were shocked and furious. How can the *&^%$#@! teacher race when we had ran 2 more laps than the opponents. The worst part,she said that the punishment for the losers was 30 sit-ups each.

Imagine that the smiley is me and the brick/plank is the stupid teacher.

Fortunately,our two racers won the race,allowing us to escape punishment. We were than told to assemble in the canteen while the girls were being punished.

Having doubts,I asked one of my female classmates if they really did the sit-ups that day. To my fury,she replied that the teacher told them to do just 10 sit-ups!!!

Why the discrimination???

Education in Singapore Pt 2

Hi again. Now,back to my complaining about Singapore's education system. Besides making childrens' lives even more difficult due to comparison,it also breeds only one thing:arrogance. Too many times have we heard students from "good" schools proudly boast that they are the best and label students from neighbourhood schools stupid. Remember the Wee Shu Min saga?What will happen to Singapore if people like her rule the country? Also,there is no school that should ever be labelled "lousy". Each school has its own niche in something,be it sports or arts or results. Unfortunately,we peasants can only get a job if we have good results. Therefore,parents judge schools according to how high their standard is. Think about it. Does it sound silly to judge schools like this? Of course it is!
If the education system is not changed,I am afraid that we may see more talented people being booted to low paying jobs because they did not come from a "good" school.

Education in Singapore

Hi.Today I am talking abt Singapore's education system.Many people have said that the education system here is screwed up.I agree. First of all, why are given so much pressure at such a young age? From preschool, we are already being compared with other children. Here's an example:

Mum 1: Hello,how's your boy?
Mum2: Ok lah. The teacher says that he still cannot read. I am worried that he may have dyslexia.
Mum 1: Dyslexia? Wah! So serious. Anyway,my boy also no better. You know he only got 8/10 when his classmates got 9 or 10? I want to send him for tution but he is only 5 yrs old. Now I don't know what to do.

This is what happens 7 yrs later...

Mum 1: Hello! How much did your son get ah?
Mum 2: Not much lah. Only get 257.
Mum 1: 257 is a good score wat. My son only got 249. Now I am giving him xtra tution 4 all subjects.
Mum 2: I want my son to go RI. Now he have to go to Dunman High only. So disappointing!
Mum 1: Aiyah! Children nowadays only want to play!

I have heard this kind of conversations so many times I have to speak up. First of all,how can parents compare and put down their children in public? The most common excuse would be: I don't want to seem arrogant. Let me ask you,is a simple "Thank you for your compliment/comment" arrogant too? Of course it's not! Secondly,why must parents care so much about how many marks their children get? In the end,it won't matter simply because the children are starting a NEW year in a NEW school.

I will continue my complaining another time.
